I've been painting since 2003 following a series of dreams whereby I was painting all sorts of images. This was definitely a time where I needed a creative outlet...
I picked up a paintbrush and a set of acrylic paints on my birthday and quickly became addicted to the creamy paints and the quiet meditative state that painting provided. I became obsessed with color and perfecting my work. My works started out as very naive and folksy, but my journey as an artist was to learn to become as realistic as possible. (see below for more)
I started painting from photos that I took of my own dogs. I experimented with different mediums and subjects, but I always came back to painting dogs. I accepted commissions for pet portraits on and off throughout the last 7 years. I had a love/hate thing going with commissions. Although I got great satisfaction from creating loving memorials of a client's pet, it also became more technical for me and less creative. Since I paint what I see, I was just "recreating" and not "creating." So for that reason, I have decided to forgo pet portraits for now and get back to exploring my creative side.
Over the years I have shown my art in various art shows, animal rescue fund raisers, galleries, boutiques and even a museum!
In 2011, my art hung at the Daytona Museum of Art with the likes of famous artists during the Woof! Art of the Dog Show.
In 2008 I was invited to show my art exclusively at the Mississippi State University during their weeklong program entitled "The Human/Animal Bond."
My art has been on the cover of the Nashville Paw twice and I have been featured in the Animal World Magazine.
I am a member of the AKC Museum of the Dog and a member of the Georgia Artist Registry.
In addition, I give a portion of the sales of my prints and paintings to a local animal rescue here in Atlanta, Mostly Mutts. (Mostlymutts.org)
